Before I came to work with TEA, I spent over a decade as a Time Bandit, which gives me a unique perspective on these topics. Feel free to ask me anything on this post in the name of research and I'll do my best to answer honestly.

Is this one your favorite of the genre? And also, would you consider "friendship to marriage" a comparably popular trope? I'm arguing with Seb who seems to think yes, but to me that's nothing.

It is. I'd call it "friends-to-lovers", and there are some perfect films with this (When Harry Met Sally is is enemies-to-friends-to-lovers so it sort of covers everything) but I think people find it more boring even though when it's done well it's equally, if not more, romantic.

In real life, definitely. But for a story I get why they add the drama of enemies.

Fiction needs that extra layer of intrigue. Although I do think there's something to be said in looking for a partner who challenges you.
