I've read Mademoiselle de Maupin but I don't know where fact deviates from fiction.

A lot of Gautier's novel took liberties with D'Aubigny's life, but my favorite thing about her is how she snuck into a convent just to get laid and burned it down complete with burned up body to stand in for her lover.
